Thousands of Motions

I've noticed that i-SOBOT is even more fully detailed, and has more functions, than the quote in the specs. For example, each function is numbered in order, however, some numbers are a combination of many moves, such as head positions, arm positions, body movements, speech, and so on... I think when there's time, I'll go back and re-document most of these... Maybe i-SOBOT has thousands functions, and not just a few hundred. Any thoughts?

Did you ever go back and study all the motions for the iSobot?

I'd love to get a program or two for my grandson that are complex enough to stimulate his interests.

I did begin to study the motion combinations and there were so many that it was a bit overwhelming. After I did the iSobot programming for space walk along the telescope, much of my time and effort was diverted to the Parallax Penguin desktop robot which is even smaller than iSobot. I've written over a thousand programs for Penguin Robot and posted these at the Parallax Forum and the Penguin Robot Society website.

I even have a Penguin Robot Superhero article in the latest issue of Robot magazine. May-June.

It's rather simple to put together motion combinations for iSobot, using the manual and by keying those in. Unfortunately I don't have any crib sheets available with the programming, but that would be a great project for someone to work on. In fact, there are so many combinations, you really need to decide on your objectives and applications with the robot.

I know the robot was claimed to be a toy, but the magnitude of its power far outweighs that simplistic claim.

The original prototypes had over 200+ including some that were eliminated because of concerns over potential music copyright issues. The version that eventually shipped does have about 8 Easter Eggs in addition to the documented motions.

In any case, you can create as many new and complex motions as you like using RoboDance and a low cost IR transmitter like this.
