This is one of those moments when I am surprised yet still sarcastic about humanity's way of interpreting and prioritizing news.
Rasberry pi is an embedded linux board. It is not a geek toy for everyone. It doesn't just run Android out of the box. It suffers from the same barrier of entry issues as all hundreds of low cost Arm based modules. Yet what is special about this one ?

- the "inventor" works for the chip manufacturer (same story as with TI's beagle and panda boards) and is a well spoken academic. so he doesn't depend on this for a living. He has managed to get the word out to mainstream TV.

- the project is a non-profit charity and there seems to be a full time lady on their site doing amazing PR.

- the cost of the module is 21 GBP and people seem to want it because it is cheap and all the "potential" it has.

Sounds like a kickstarter success except this one brought down farnell.com
