Looking for cheap ways to prototype custom aluminum brackets, I just found these things:

There are a few other brands, but this one seems typical. Looks like it should work really well on soft sheet metal like aluminum. But I'm curious whether anybody has tried it, and what your experiences were.

I did try one, though either the nibbler or me, all felt a bit to clumbsy to follow outline accurately. I do have a manual hand held one, but it sometimes distorts the aluminium.

For manual making of sheet aluminium parts, I most use a PCB type shear to cut the material, then a 1" belt linisher to make the finishing curves etc. Also works for carbon fibre sheets, though I guess I must be blunting it !
Use it for PCB too :D
I try to avoid internal cutting, but use an abrafile if I must.
