I looked around and found the original ST16 oscilloscope at a parts store
in China. It was a real find. Some of these sell for about $35. (It's a big
upgrade from my sound oscilloscope which had an upper bandwidth limit
not above 40khz.)

It appears to have the original cable. However, I could sure use a manual,
which was missing. Is there a pdf file of any ST16 version oscilloscope
manual?

humanoido

Manufacture: Xinjian Instrument Equipment Co., Ltd.
Web Site: http://www.chinesesource.com/details.cfm?id=20464&cat_id=38
Type: Single-Trace Oscillograph
Model: ST16
Frequency: 7MHz
Synchronous with TV
Sensitivity: 20mv/div--10v/div
Application: Durable model, reliable quality, and easy operation
Widely used in colleges and universities
History: Jiangsu Luyang Electronic Instrument Group Corporation
provided some historical information at their web site.
http://www.lvyang.com/en/intro/course.htm
"1982 Oscilloscope ST-16 won the first prize in the National Quality
Evaluation and was regarded as the high quality products by the Ministry
of the Electronics Industry and Jiangsu Province, which is the first quality
product on the ministry grade."

Statistics: Posted by Humanoido — Mon May 05, 2008 7:02 am

Glad to hear the good comments about the oscilloscope. I like the retro look as I owned a scope just like this but it was lost when moving. It was a Heathkit, put together from a kit. I used it for years and it was very reliable. Only I see this scope is much smaller which is a great advantage. So that part is modern. Thanks for sharing your great find.

humanoido
Statistics: Posted by Humanoido — Sat Apr 05, 2008 11:12 am

I got mine. It does look a little retro but it works great. It doesn't seem cheap or flimsy. Its not a kit so you don't have to put it together..lol Works fine for me, I'm happy with it.
Statistics: Posted by Droid Works — Fri Apr 04, 2008 4:21 pm

Droid Works, did you receive the oscilloscope and have it put together from the kit? How is it working? It looks like a nice one!

humanoido
Statistics: Posted by Humanoido — Fri Apr 04, 2008 3:59 pm

Hi Orac

I haven't use the scope that you link to, but your get what you pay for, cheap and cheerful. I would recommend having a look at Pico. There what we use at Uni and they do the job well. A little bit more expensive but I think there would be better investment. Another important part I feel with buying equipment like this, if you buy a good quality well know brand you will be able to sell it for a good price and quit easily in the future. Thats why i brought an Tektronix second hand off ebay.

Just my thought Bren
Statistics: Posted by Robo1 — Sun Mar 30, 2008 10:10 pm
