sbsshadow - take a look at this video. It was taken in April when a few the UK Robosavvy members of us met up in Bicester for some Robofootball.
In it you can see a Manoi (all Black), several Robonovas (copper colour), half a Bioloid (legs only) a Kondo (can't remember what model) and a i-Sobot.

The video will give you a good feel of the relative sizes of the robots and an idea of how fast they move. The i-Sobot was veritably dwarfed and out run by all the other robots. The i-Sobot is probably a third of the size of the others.

Nothing against the i-Sobot, but I was surprised at how small and compact it is compared to the other bipeds.

"Normally" is a misleading word

I believe last year was the first year and we had probably half a dozen robots. This year looks enormous and some of us "veterans" (*smirk*) should have made some improvements.

Last year my bot could stand. Literally that's all it could do. A year later it can now, er, not even do that.

I'm looking forward to progress from the likes of BillB, see how things are doing...

HI sbsshadow

As your in the UK why not come down to the UK robo-one event at the end of the month. I will be bring down my KHR-2 and there will be every kit there for you to look at and talk to the owns. It's a really good day out and will differently make you want to buy a bot and compete. Have a llok in the general section or look at this link.

Hi,

I tinker with my Manoi and also am working on a PC based rover with a camera.

The Isobot never really appealed to me, I have seen it in action and its a fun chap. There are some good videos on YouTube showing what it's capable of, but I needed something that was a bit more hackable.

I get both of them, they are both good in different ways.

Robot is more of a general round-up of the worlds hobby robotics with a few how-to articles.

Servo is more for the electronics hardware enthusiast and has detailed schematics and component reviews, etc.

Whats the best magazine to buy here in the uk about robotics ?

I have seen a couple on the web, but am going to WH Smith today.

Would it be ROBOT ? or SERVO ?

Or any others ...
