For the money it doesn't look that impresive.

I can't work out why it's that expensive, surely it's doesn't cost that much to produce say £2000 if they use really good maxim motors. I can't see the robo-cup people been to happy about the price, seeing as they well need 2+ of these things just to compete. compared to the price of the sony dog.

When it walks it looks very jerky.

Bren
Statistics: Posted by Robo1 — Fri Nov 21, 2008 4:42 pm

The price has gone up to 12000EUR (which is not much given that the 10000EUR mark was in July... 25% away from current USD exchange rate).

I am curious about the business model of the company.
Definitely not a retail product so how else can they recoup the couple of million EUR invested so far?

phpBB [media]

Statistics: Posted by limor — Fri Nov 21, 2008 12:15 pm

from Engadget:

We've been keeping an eye on Aldebaran's NAO robot since before it even took its first steps, and it now looks like the little guy is finally set to try to make it on its own in the wild world of the commercial market. That word comes courtesy of an exhaustive white paper posted by Aldebaran on the arXiv website, which also includes the helpful little detail that the bot will cost interested laboratories about €10,000 (or roughly $15,600). Its is believed that they can sell for as low as €4000 with mass production and sensor reductions. Unfortunately, there's no indication as to exactly when the bot will be available, but those in the market for one can at least tide themselves a bit over by pouring over the details available in the PDF at the link below.

http://arxiv.org/abs/0807.3223
Statistics: Posted by Layton — Thu Jul 24, 2008 8:17 am
