I dunno, I'm just not a fan of those serial based servos I guess.

I have more experience in traditional servos, and have quite a few lying around at home so I always thought something like a kondo would suit me better.

Plus, I think the robobuilder looks too much like a toy...
Statistics: Posted by Kwan — Mon Sep 08, 2008 10:16 am

Then I shall go to Japan with an open mind and a tightly monitored budget...

I'll look around some of the Akihabara shops for events, coz I know some of the shops have actual mini gatherings.

I don't think I'll catch the robo-one as I'm leaving mid Feb.

What new things are likely to come out in 6 months?
Statistics: Posted by Kwan — Sun Sep 07, 2008 3:47 pm

Hi Kwan

I would not decide on a robot yet, a lot can change in 6 months.

Attending a Robo-One event first is a must!!! The 15th Japanese Robo-One , should be on around the end of March time. (Since they seem to be held bi-annually October and March)

Good luck
Statistics: Posted by NovaOne — Sun Sep 07, 2008 8:27 am

Good idea about checking possible events while I'm there.

From the videos I've seen, some robots are a lot quicker than others. Is that just due to the servos they have or does the receiver have something to do with that as well?

I'm a big fan of the omnizero robot because it is so agile.
Statistics: Posted by Kwan — Sun Sep 07, 2008 4:11 am

the RB1000 robots have not been a great commercial success.
in my opinion because their initial price was too high, the performance was not great. there was no position feedback (catch-and-play functionality) in the servos, the controller and software were ok,. and it did not look as good as other kits.

If you plan on buying in Japan then KHR is probably the right choice. check out at http://Robots-Dreams.com if there are any humanoid events at the time you are planning to go.
Statistics: Posted by limor — Sat Sep 06, 2008 9:26 pm

Cheers for that, I've actually been on that site a few times now.

Since I'll be buying the kit from Japan most likely, I've been looking at some Japanese robot shops and their prices.

For some reason, the RB2000 is about 200 dollars cheaper than the KHR-2HV, though from my knowledge the RB2000 is newer?

I quite like the 'quickness' of the RB2000 bot, do any of you guys recommend this kit?
Statistics: Posted by Kwan — Sat Sep 06, 2008 6:07 pm

Hi Guys!
Greetings from the land down under - Australia!

The name's Sean, and I've been into RC for nearly 10 years now. I started with planes ...then moved onto cars ....then to helicopters, and now I've stumbled onto this little realm of robotics.

I've been to this site quite often now just reading this and that and looking over all the robot kits. The amount of servos these things take are quite amazing!

In roughly 6 months time I will be traveling to Japan on holiday, and I hope to pick up a kit for myself to tinker with. I'm currently leaving towards the Kondo KHR-2HV kit, but would really appreciate everyone's input.

My budget for a kit would be around $1000AUS.

Cheers everyone!
Statistics: Posted by Kwan — Sat Sep 06, 2008 2:36 pm
