Pretty cool, thanks for sharing. I'm going to try and take it one step further and try and mount the handset into the robot's shell. I'm going to look around for a second hand HTC Hero, take it apart and mount it somehow.

Time to setup a project site.
Statistics: Posted by scarab — Tue Apr 20, 2010 7:31 am

I remember watching a video of a Plen robot being controlled by a smartphone. It was probably just an application, rather than a complete OS overhaul, but it gets the job done.

http://www.phonesreview.co.uk/2010/01/27/video-android-controls-android-by-plen/
Statistics: Posted by RobotServicesGroup — Tue Apr 20, 2010 2:03 am

Greetings all,

I was wondering if anyone here has toyed around with the idea of putting together a custom build of Android OS tailored for Robotics use? I've got a Google ION developer phone and I'm thinking of attaching it to my Robobuilder 5710k kit. It's makes for a good controller as it has Wifi, GPS, Bluetooth, camera, touch screen and an accelerometer in one small form factor.

I've seen the Nokia dog-bot which I guess was the catalyst for this idea. Although I think heading down the Android OS path would be a much more fun experience.

Now that there are 1Ghz processor phones starting to come out, I think they make excellent candidates for "brains".

Very interested to hear what you peeps have to say about this.

Cheers!
Statistics: Posted by scarab — Mon Apr 19, 2010 2:32 pm
