buenodiablo wrote:
What are the different classes of robots in Robo One? I know there is a class J and a class 10, but what do they mean and how many classes are there?

Thanks

It depends on which country you're interested in. It's confusing even for us that particpate here in Japan. Here's a very breif overview:

The 'sport' originated in Japan, and has been evolving rapidly over the past few years. There are currently a whole series of ROBO-ONE events here including the main ROBO-ONE competitions, ROBO-ONE J, ROBO-ONE on PC, ROBO-ONE Grand Prix, ROBO-ONE Technical Conference, ROBO-ONE Special, etc. There are also special projects like ROBO-ONE In The Space.

The most recent event was ROBO-ONE 10 (the number means that this was the 10th main competition - they are usually held every six months). At that time they unofficially announced that ROBO-ONE J will be merged into the main competition; they will be implementing different weight/size classifications; and they have plans to continue the ROBO-ONE with Family aspect of ROBO-ONE J - but aren't ready to talk about any specifics.

Besides the competitions operated by the ROBO-ONE committee, there are also quite a few regional competitions that use similar rules and draw some of the same competitors. These include Robo-Fight and Robo-Gong in Osaka, Robo-Country IV in Kochi, a new competition in Himeji, etc. The regional competitions have recently been authorized to pre-qualify their winners for the main ROBO-ONE events.

The US ROBO-ONE competition held at RoboGames each year is a mini-version very loosely based on the Japanese competition from about two years ago. The current Korean ROBO-ONE competitions are closer to the current Japanese events, but still have some differences.
Statistics: Posted by tempusmaster — Wed Oct 18, 2006 5:01 am
