sumadijien, my RSC-1 board works fine now. I hope yours too.
It is a quite complex topic.

The RSC-1 board is always on, even if all switches are off. Bad design of the RCB-1 board. You know the battery dies over night if not unplugged. And even worse you can have short ciruits. I saw my RCB-1 board glowing and fuming once already.

1) I found that the sensor board cannot drive the 26mAH load of the Sharp GP distance sensor. To use this sensor you need to supply external voltage. I used the Servo power although it exceeds the specs of the Sharp (4.5 to 5.5 V only). I try to grab 5V from the RCB-1 as soon as I have time again.

2) If you connect Sensor control input (the fifth from the top) for Sensor 1 to CH24: READ IN YOUR HOME POSITION!!!, set the CH24 to H, SAVE THE HOME POSITION to a file and to the KHR-1. Otherwise you will have the default (L or PWM) setting of CH24 everytime you switch on power and sensor 1 will not be enabled.

3) If you trigger a motion this motion data file will set the value of CH 24 to whatever it was in the motion file. To make sure your sensor is still HOT after the motion file was triggered and played back you need to change the CH24 setting in the motion file: open the motion file with a text editor. First line describes what you see in all subsequent lines. Change the last entry of line 2 up to the very last line (from probably preset 255) to 256 (256 means H). Save the file and read it into your KHR-1. Now the file will not reset your sensor enable when it is played back.
(If you want to disable the sensor automatically after one time use then leave it as it is on 255.)

4) Unplug the ICS PC Cable from the RCB-1 board while using the RSC-1 board. Only one of the two will work if plugged in both. Bad design again.

This should do it, if not let me know,
noDNA
Statistics: Posted by noDNA — Sun Apr 23, 2006 6:03 pm

noDNA wrote:
Thank you!
Did anybody translate the RSC-1 manual or does anybody use it with external sensors already?
noDNA

I had tried again and more, but it still ended up with failure.
What is wrong with the sensor board? During testing to read in the sensor data, it works well, right. But to join together the robot controller board to this sensor board, it came up to be problem.
Could any one have been able to make the two board fusion? Please, we need a right direction of procedure.
Statistics: Posted by sumadijien — Tue Feb 14, 2006 9:06 am

Hi,
I just received my RSC-1 board.
It is supposed to be a sensor input board for analog voltages 0-5Volts.
It has 8 inputs and connects to the RCB-1 in serial and on Channel 24.

Now, how can I hook up some sensors? Technically I kow about
sensors and electronics, no problem. It is more about understanding
the procedure.

I can imagine hooking up a distance sensor, a tilt sensor, pressure sensors for floor contact or collision detection.

Did anybody translate the "RSC-1 manual pages" and where can I find the RSC software shown in the manual?
I have the manual pages here in my shipped box but cannot read kanji,

thanks
noDNA
Statistics: Posted by noDNA — Wed Jan 25, 2006 11:43 am
