Great stuff, thanks for you input. I'll have a look at what funds i can find, I should imagine it will be another month or so until I actually purchase something.

I had the same decision to make last month when i got the bioloid premium and so far its the right choice, great solid kit and there's plenty of support out there for it.

I also agree with what the other guys say above me too. Did want to go for the GP or one of the Kondo robots but theres a huge price jump for someone new to the hobby and i didn't want to fork out 2k for something that i would have trouble working with

Have a look at the forum and Trossenrobotics.com there's plenty of good threads about the same predicament and other informative posts too.

Start with Bioloid GP. Don't waste your money in premium kit.

Regardless of what you buy, you will always want more from it. Now with the Robotis and Robobuilder you have several things to consider. One, how many sensors can I put on it? Second, How strong are its servos? Third, how reliable are the brackets that hold it together? Lastly, how friendly is its software? On that note I personally think Robotis is far superior. Although if you buy the beginner kit you will get bored fast. So if these are the choices you are set on go for the better Robotis kits. Otherwise, go for a KHR-1hv.

Hi all,

I'm new to this forum and the field of robotics. I'm looking at getting a bipedal robot and was wondering where would be a good place to start?

The Robotis beginner set looks promising but a little limited. I think i would find myself paying to expand to the comprehensive kit before too long, as such does this offer value for money? Should I want an extra month or so and pay for the larger kit up front?

The Robobuilder 5710K looks a good starting point for a complete kit at a reasonable price but you then dont have the opportunities to develop as you appear to have with the Robotis kit...

I want to get the best "bang for my buck" but also have development opportunities in the future.

ummm...help?
