Hi Orac!

You know how they say "better late than never"? Well, it's true..

I just spent two days and a night trying to translate the Japanese manual
myself, and all i ended up with is 15 pages of correctly translated text
(only one of which i actually managed to insert back into the PDF so far -
turns out that's the most annoying part), a few pages of not yet completely
corrected software translations (didn't bother to translate all of the
"Don't stick a fork in your eye while peeing into an electric socket!"
warnings yet) and a serious headache...

So even tho that software translated PDF you attached normally wouldn't
be a sight for sore eyes, today it most definitely is.

Thank you for the links, Orac! They will be very helpful, especially the
second one, since i didn't have that document yet!

P.S. Can't help but wonder what software was used to convert it, cos it did
quite a good job. But the translations suffer from a problem i noticed while
using Google Translate - sometimes a Japanese sentence spans more than
a single line, but copy/pasting it yields multiple lines in the translator, which
then treats them as separate sentences, making it hard or impossible to
figure out the actual meaning...

I had to manually make sure every sentence was continuous right up to its
actual end, in order to get the most accurate translations out of it...

Obviously a software can't easily do the same, so every line is treated as a
new sentence, and as a result, many of them make no sense whatsoever...

I still kinda feel the urge to keep translating, and if there were more people
actually interested, i would most likely finish it, but with the robot as old as
it is... Just makes no sense to spend so much time, when i could be building
it instead.
Statistics: Posted by Mark1 — Fri Jul 22, 2011 4:05 pm

Thank you Nicolas, great links! Much appreciated! Should help us a lot.

A friend that is building this with me already has some experience with robotics, so it's not going to be too hard, but we're still also hoping to be able to find an actual manual.

Among other things, to verify the kit contents. Not to mention knowing for sure what goes where. Like which screw lengths to use for which parts. The robot was too expensive for a trial and error approach.

We were planning to use the rest of the money to buy upgrades from Robosavvy, so we're hoping we don't waste it on repairs from the very beginning...

OP: Check the list i am sending and let me know if you have anything else.. Looks like I'm not the only one with this problem. My group just recently bought the AT01 robot, but our manual is also japanese. We assumed we could find an english manual online, but we had no luck so far.

I'm hoping i can find someone here who can help, so we can start building.

Plus, there is another problem. The kit is not brand new, but the guy we got it from said it's never been used, and everything is still supposed to be exactly as it was when he bought it.
We have no reason to doubt this, but we would like to make sure we have all the parts that are supposed to be there, before we start building.

The boxes inside the package contain many numbered plastic bags with parts inside. I assume that the manual lists these bags and what is in them, but none of us can read any Japanese, so for now we just tried to make sure, that the bag numbers line up.

We found bags numbered 1 through 43, but no 35 and 36. However the body shells and the charger had no number tag, so it's possible that the two missing numbers refer to them. Can anyone confirm this?

Something we found strange was, that bags number 32, 42 and 43 only contain other smaller already numbered bags (16, 17, 25 in bag #32 / 18 - 24 in bag #43 / 39 - 41 in bag #43) but no additional parts, so it made no sense they would be numbered at all, however all the bags are originally sealed and untouched, so it doesn't look like anything is missing.

But it would be good to know for sure we have everything.

To the OP: If you haven't unpacked your kit yet, would you be willing to check, if you have the same bag numbers inside as described above? I would also suggest we exchange any files we have about the AT01. I can send you a PM with a list.
Statistics: Posted by Mark1 — Sat Jul 16, 2011 12:07 pm

Also, there are probably many other related documents that might be hard to find in English (such as H2H instructions and RCB3 manual and perhaps others i don't even know about)...

Half a year ago, when i bought the robot i obsessively searched for and downloaded everything i could find, so i probably already have most of the important files...

But if anyone has a collection of AT01 relevant documents, i would be very grateful if they could share it in case i'm missing anything else...

Thanks again!
Statistics: Posted by IgorT — Fri Jul 15, 2011 4:27 pm

So i have this beautiful MANOI AT01 robot kit in a box, and would love to start putting it all together, but it only came with a Japanese manual...

I could assemble the robot just by looking at the pictures, but I'm worried i would mess up the proper servo home positions and perhaps something else I'm not yet aware of...

Does anyone have an English PDF with assembly instructions, or knows where to find it?
