I was also thinking about programming it to roller skate in the future using the hack kit and also to develop some new dance routines. Plus, by gaining computer control, a significant amount of AI and speech could be introduced through program control inclusive of internet control. The internet control could open up access to huge data bases of knowledge and information. i-SOBOT was standing on a slight incline and actually appeared to be compensating to maintain some small incremental changes to balance, or at least in my mind it was doing a terrific job of standing and moving. You can actually hear the servos compensating when i-SOBOT is standing on surfaces other than level.

humanoido
Statistics: Posted by Humanoido — Fri Feb 15, 2008 8:05 pm

I'm starting to suspect that it's a software and a hardware issue. The software issue being that there were direction flip flopping perhaps in different firmware revisions, and hardware where the joints needed to be realigned (the 444B command in RC mode).

However, I did find it odd that in voice control mode, it was fine...

Oh well, if only the I-Sobot was hackable, we can rewrite the gait sequences to see it do some neat things, maybe even roller skating like its big cousin Pleo?
Statistics: Posted by tom_chang79 — Fri Feb 15, 2008 4:44 pm

On the isobot here, in RC mode, push the left joystick to the left for a left turn, and i-SOBOT turns right. Push the controller to the right for a right turn, and he turns left.

However, side step left and right is correct. In V-C Mode, turn left and turn right is correct.

The directions of the turns given are from i-SOBOT's point of view.

humanoido
Statistics: Posted by Humanoido — Wed Feb 13, 2008 9:42 am

I'd also like to see a plug n play hack kit, to give programmable control over all the servos, and prerecorded sounds. It would be cool to turn i-SOBOT into a full time dog or other emulations. hehe..

humanoido
Statistics: Posted by Humanoido — Wed Feb 13, 2008 9:20 am

yeah, it could be

I'm just waiting for someone to hack the i-sobot, perhaps releasing a dev kit for it so you can mod it and control individual servos. The first thing I want to re-write is the walking gait. It's quite stable right now but the feet doesn't have much clearance.
Statistics: Posted by tom_chang79 — Sun Jan 13, 2008 8:50 am

Yes, the i-sobot is facing me. I tried to command it to turn right and left when facing me and both commands in rc-mode have yielded the same command, the i-sobot turning right. The LCD on the screen clearly displays that the command being sent is a left turn, even though the unit only can turn right. I tried the vc-mode, and when I told it to turn left, it turned left... Strange...
Statistics: Posted by tom_chang79 — Sun Jan 13, 2008 1:01 am
