Had a great time - thanks to all those involved.

Pictures and Video are all great too.

Looking forward to the next big event.

Orac - found out where the bit a black plastic came from. Servo #3 so no left arm at present. Time for the credit card as the outside case is broken and one of the plastic gears has stripped some teeth.

Looking forward to Birmingham !

Thanks, I had a great time.

A bit worried about cramming us all in, but ok in the end. Next time, if we get a few more people, we can move to a bigger venue.

The arena got a bit bashed during the day but shows 'character' now

Hopefully, we will get some more photos and videos online soon, but for now, here are some of the new events not seen before.

First of all i would like to thank pete for hosting the days events and lunch
and limor for supplying prizes

The main event football we decided no teams just free for all

When you meet this weekend, please think seriously about the above opportunity.

There may be possibility of financial sponsorship for a "team" to come over and compete in Korea, Robo-one style. The robot doesn't have to be necessarily Robotis made although the sponsorship is indirectly by them. They are looking for a European contender to show up at the event and I'm sure whoever will go will have a great time.

Nice Pitch Orac - can't wait to let my Bots lose on the pitch.

Re: Humans vs. Robots: Judging by the current state of the art Robotics and AI, there are many, many technical hurdles to overcome before autonomous robots can beat humans at football(soccer). There will need to be significantly more progress made in the next 40 years then there has been in the last 40 years.

Using the current football(Soccer) rules I am sure that either the robots will be very quickly red carded (imagine a quarter of a ton of robot slide tackling a humans ankles).

The rules of football/soccer would need to be modified - but without some aggressive tackling it would simply not be football.

I think that the robocup team probably could by that time. Its what 42 years away? If robotics has not advanced to the point that where it cant beat the best humans in the world by 2050 then it I picked the wrong occupation. On the other hand the World Cup winners and professionals players in general are very very good so there is a chance that it wouldn't happen by that time.
What i am curious to see is if humans will want to play robots. Having played soccer for four years in high school. I understand that it is a very aggressive and high contact sport. I wonder if the robots will be able to handle the aggression and if so how will they handle it? Do they just shrug off the tackles and the elbows or do they give what they get? While this may seem trivial, part off being a good player is going hard for the ball no matter what the cost. Will it be possible to create robots that can play aggressively, and if so how will this be accepted by the human population? If a robot can through an elbow in a soccer match what are people going to think? Maybe I am over thinking all of this but I can't help but wonder what people will think about losing to robots in a game that humans invented.

P.S. sorry if I say soccer. Really soccer, football whatever, its all the same to me

I think in about 10/20 years the robot will be able to better humans. Just think of the possibilty of wireless communication and the accuracy of ball passes in the future!
