Hi there,

Here's my views:
1) Can Robobuilder use a wireless camera? - yes if you look at the Microsoft Robot Dev System (MDRS) thread in the forum - you can see they have done this - but I don't know the details. You can also of course do a hardware hack using cheaper security / spy cams and attach to the robot.

Also I think the company that does the Havimo vision for the bioloid is rumored to be bringing out a Robouilder version

2) Controlled in realtime? Yes - in fact you can download my RobobuilderLib and control in real time using .NET - and program in Ruby or Lisp - or C# - examples again in the forum (link: http://robobuildervc.googlecode.com/fil ... derLib.dll )

3) I use Aforge.NET as it integrates easily with >NET - but there also OpenCV and I think theres a OpenCV.NET version - you need to Google for info

4) For beginners? Yes! Its very easy to start with - easy to expand. It has motion software and action creation software that comes with it - so you don't need to know how to program. For the more experienced its easy to hack - I have 21 servo on my model now. It supports C based programming on the micro controller and supports remote based real time control through simple serial protocol

5) It has an accelerometer - not aware of gyro

6) Personally I went for the 5710 as its cheaper and I wasn't into the flashing lights - and robosavvy are doing a great deal with inclusive distance and accelerometer sensors.

7) The competitions and groups will depend your locality - but I don't think Robobuilder is as strong as KHR and Bioloid for this - as RB competitions seems to be more Korean focused.

For more info go to Robobuilder wiki and you can see official docs
http://robosavvy.com/site/index.php?opt ... obobuilder

regards

l3v3rz
Statistics: Posted by l3v3rz — Sat Apr 24, 2010 11:02 am

Hey all,

I have been looking into which robot to purchase for the last month or so. I have been trying to find the model that will give me a good introduction to robotics while still allowing for expandability to more advanced programming. I was been looking into the Kondo kits as well as the Robobuilder kits.

I had a few questions and would be very thankful if any of you robobuilder vets had a few moments to help asnwer them.

1) Can robobuilder use a wireless/bluetooth webcam to relay information to a PC? If so which Camera?

2) Can robobilder be controled via a PC in real time?

3)If yes to both above is there any image prcoessing software that will allow robobuilder to make desitions and track objects?

4) Would you recommend robobuilder for a newbie? someone who has no programming experiance?

5) Is there any gyro for balnce for this unit?

6)which robobuilder kit would you recommend? which upgrades/addons?

7)Other then setting up differnt motions and movements what are people doing with Robobuilders? I am really just looking for examples of challanges people take? gorups or competitions people join? I am brand new to this feild and want to know how best to get involved.

Thank you all for your time and consideration,

Jonathan
Statistics: Posted by Mathieas — Sun Apr 18, 2010 8:41 am
