But on the serious side the default KungFu program that you can download from the Robotis support website has some issues.

The biggest is a center of balance issue. You can see it when it stands still or when it walks. The robot leans forward which throws off it's center of balance (it fells over more often).

Robotis fixed this issue in the default example program and the soccer program but not in the default KungFu program.

My advice is to use the soccer program or the default program as base code to start from and then add KungFu moves.
Statistics: Posted by Gort — Wed Dec 14, 2011 7:11 pm

Thanks Pedro,
That was a great response and answered many of my questions.

I'm just an enthusiast with very basic knowledge of robotics. I'm looking to get into this field as a hobby. However I have good exposure to programming languages such as C and .net

I looked at the robobuilder red kit with the sensors or the boiloid premium. There is a price difference but I have to study more carefully on the differeneces and which one meets value for money.

Now I am trying to find someone in Korea or China hoping for cheaper price on either of those kits.. Or buy it from a member of this forum whom can be trusted.

Thanks again for helping me
Statistics: Posted by bennz — Tue Dec 13, 2011 10:53 pm

Hi Bennz

It will really depend on what you want to do and what your skill level and background is (ie more of a software person or a hardware person).
The Comprehensive Kit offers nice value for money but the controller is limited in terms of adding sensors (there are workarounds for this if you search our forum for Pepper board).

The Robobuilder (Red Edition or Blue Edition) on the other hand comes with all the sensors that you can possibly add to the main RBC controller (which includes the Acceleration sensor, not present on the Comprehensive Kit).

On the other hand the Comprehensive lets you build more shapes (23 opposed to 3 on Robobuilder) and the Graphical Software is better on the Bioloid (Roboplus).

Again, in favour of Robobuilder if you'd like to do programming in .Net or use the Serial protocol the Robobuilder offers a better solution as it includes a very thorough and comprehensive serial protocol.

For this reason we usually recommend Robobuilder for Beginners or people who want to go through a smooth learning curve and also for users who have a background more oriented towards software (ie who will want to use .Net libraries, alternative firmwares).

I don't really know in which profile you fit but I hope this can help shed some light on your decision

Regards
Pedro.
Statistics: Posted by PedroR — Tue Dec 13, 2011 6:05 pm

That is a great video.

As a beginner to Robotics I am thinking to get a kit for myself. I have been looking at both Bioloid Comprehensive kit and RoboBuilder 5710K Red Edition w/ Full Sensor pack ( being sold on this site )

However I need some pro advice on which is better in terms of control, quality and possibility of advancement in future?

I really aprpeciate your advice.

Thanks
Statistics: Posted by bennz — Sun Dec 11, 2011 1:09 am

Cool, thanks for posting that. As a RoboBuilder user, I was proud to see it pretty much dominating the battle. The Bioloid is much faster at getting around the floor, but also seems to fall over a lot more readily.
Statistics: Posted by Joe — Sat Dec 03, 2011 3:32 am
