In fact, on RoBoard, the major factor that makes ones feel uncomfortable in using XP is the speed of the microSD card.

WinXP accesses disk heavily, and a slow disk (such as microSD) can obviously pain WinXP's performance (especially in the duration of XP boot and of launching an application). However, this has only negligible effect for the execution of moderate programs such as robot-control programs, and therefore we still decide to employ the microSD in the design of RoBoard, considering the weight, size, power consumption, and cost of a hard disk.

Using a high-speed MicroSD card may relieve your suffering in manipulating WinXP on RoBoard.

Hi

The tests I've made with the testes I've made using the Roboard were all done with XP SP3.

Since SP3 is cumulative from SP2 I'm sure you'll be able install SP2 nicelly.

The only issue is really the overhead that SP2 adds to the system :S

There are other alternatives such as using nLite to reduce the footprint and there's also BartPE which is an extremely slim install of Windows XP. The philosofy with BartPE is that you start with a very slim base (only 4 processes running at boot) and then there are many plug ins to add almost anything you want (VB runtimes, hot plug support, remote desktop, browsers, .net, etc, etc. etc).

Has anyone tried installing SP2? Today I have successfully managed to store windows xp on my roboard (with sp1), but I need to install sp2 to be able to work with visual c++ 2005. With sp1 the system works ok given all the constrains, but i am afraid that by installing sp 2 the system will slow down a lot.
