Solution: locked myself out of bios

Dear everyone,

The other day we had managed to get ourselves locked out of the RB-100 bios. (Don't ask how we got there in the first place. We actually had good reasons, but it'll probably sound stupid...)
We found a way to fix it, and want to share it with you so others might benefit.

The problem situation:
- USB legacy support off (so unable to get in bios by using DEL key)
- P.O.S.T. forwarding to COM1 on. That broke remote access via COM1. (So unable to get in bios by using F11 key on remote keyboard.)
- Can get into a Linux environment (either by bootable USB stick or by SD card)

The solution (first step):
Download CmosPwd (http://www.cgsecurity.org/wiki/CmosPwd) and run it with the -k switch (for "bios kill"). CmosPwd was hinted on by ATebay: http://robosavvy.com/forum/viewtopic.php?p=19713#19713

This gives a partial fix:
I can get into bios again using USB keyboard. But the SD card is no longer detected by the bios. So no harddisk to boot from.

The solution (second step):
Go into bios, load the "optimized defaults", reboot.

Hope this helpes some poor souls out there

With kind regards,

Jurrie Overgoor
2go-mobile
Statistics: Posted by jurrieovergoor — Tue Aug 11, 2009 8:21 am
