Hi

To avoid the mess of using virtual machines and linux and whatever more and lose time building a pendrive to install the linux, you can now just burn an ISO image of a installing pendrive, in windows or linux, and inside you can put the linux image file you want to install and plug it on the roboard and start the installation! 1min and thats it!

http://actuated.wordpress.com/2011/02/1 ... it-easier/

After this you can follow the rest of the steps given on the roboard debian installation manual.

A small step, a big help!
Enjoy
Statistics: Posted by RicardoMarinheiro — Tue Mar 29, 2011 10:55 pm

just went through the process so here are a couple of updates:

1) if you don't have Linux on your PC, then it seems that you can not install Debian from Windows which I find odd but the semi simple solution was to run Debian in virtual machine. So installed VirtualBox and then installed the same "netinst" ISO that was destined for the Roboard ... onto the virtual machine (i posted some screenshots of VirtualBox installation on previous post related to Bifferboard installation.

2) now that Debian is running on the PC, i followed the procedure in the document. However, couple of gotchas.. the latest kernel from Roboard is version 30, not 29.. as the thing is in the middle of onstalling on the Roboard, it did complain of incompatible loadable modules so hopefully false alarm.

3) When booting from the USB stick, the prompt you get is not as the manual states but rather something like "MBR FA:" which looks like some kind of failed boot but it aint. after a couple of hours of retries, I RTFM'd and read the manual of mbr-install. which says that you have to press "A" and then "1" when you get that prompt.
Statistics: Posted by limor — Thu Aug 12, 2010 11:19 pm
