eBox 3350MX - Windows XP EWF demo and consumption

This is very impressive! I could learn a few things from you myself! I actually am in need of some good ideas on conserving energy for the project that I am working on. It will be battery powered, and very recourse intensive so I need to save energy wherever I can. It seems no matter what I try, I cannot get the consumption level down to where it needs to be in order for this project to be practical. I was thinking about taking this project to a Rapid Prototyping company to see if they can help me figure this out, and build my prototype. Would anyone advise this? Thank you!

Thought it might be worth adding this to your post eried. The link below has everything you need to enable EWF. It is very quick and easy... in fact, it was so easy that even I managed to work it out without any dramas. And I can confirm that it does make a HUGE difference to the speed of the eBox.

If you do need to make permanent changes just run the command file that is included and it will do the necessary steps, finishing by re-enabling EWF. You have to do a reboot so that EWF is set back on again. There is also a status command file included so you can easily check whether EWF is enabled or disabled.

Another demo

Windows XP on ebox 3350mx - Sound and Web browsing in IE

It has no Direct3d acceleration so Winamp visualization does not load. Also IE hangs a bit in the startup of the browser, maybe is better to use with a lighter browser, of course if the ebox is *needed* as an emergency workstation

Even being fanless, the ebox does not get too hot, with 23ºC outside, 21ºC inside, the ebox is @ 26ºC, perfect as a "always on" machine to run your applications

I was pretty happy with my eBox, but when I tested EWF in XP was impressive! very fast start and everything:
-Cold to login: 28 secs
-Login to desktop: 6 secs
-Shutdown: 9 secs

Also I captured the effective consumption (pretty low!):
-Bios, Windows Boot: 4.1 - 4.6W
-Normal operation inside Windows XP: 4.7 - 4.8W
-Turn off your pc screen (I guess VGA mode, and idle): 3.6 - 3.7W

USB Keyboard (does not adds noticeable consumption <0.1W) & mouse (adds 0.1W)
