Hi Allen

There is another related post about that for eBox 3350MX.

In essence, Roboard identifies itself as "Vortex86" architecture and the default Linux distro does not recognize this. For this reason, it fails to install a kernel (it should install a default i386 kernel).

The Roboard website has instructions about doing what's called a "transplanted installation".
In this case, you install Linux to a Virtual Machine, rpepare all the image and then copy it to SD card, ready to boot on Roboard.

Having said, this, velocis suggestion is also my recommendation: I don't know if you have any particular reason for going with Ubuntu Server but Lubuntu seems to be a great choice in terms of being Lightweight.

Additionally, because it's 100% based on ubuntu you get access to the excellent software repository.

Regards
Pedro
Statistics: Posted by PedroR — Mon Jul 23, 2012 7:09 pm

Try using the Lubuntu 10.04 LTS install from the roboard site with includes a great PDF install guide, pretty much the same distro, just lighter.

Works fine on my robonova with an RB-100
http://robosavvy.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=8105
Statistics: Posted by Velocis — Sat Jul 21, 2012 1:58 pm

I am trying to get Roboard running Ubuntu server edition. I am installing from a USB to the SD card on the board. I got a message saying that the kernel could not be found for the board and that it would likely not boot after the install. Once I get to that point, how do I apply the kernel patches to the system?

Thanks,
-Hunter A.
Statistics: Posted by hunter.allen — Fri Jul 13, 2012 8:33 pm
