I do not have this kit myself, but I find that they often mark ages on things like this not quite accurate, its more a safety thing, I think children would be able to handle these, but theres a risk of getting hurt if there not careful.

As said above, with supervision it should work, and I really think its a good idea, if I had had robotics in my school at that age I would have loved it, many kids never will have seen something like this in person and I'm sure it will spark alot of interests, the only other thing to watch out for is these parts are worth alot, if some children know this they may try to slip out with a few servo's, so I'd keep an eye on all the parts.

Hello Nate,

The KHR-1 kits sold now are very reliable. There have been problems in the past like bad solder points and vibrations but they have been addressed by Kondo and there haven't been complaints in a while. In Japan thousands were sold and it is widely used as an educational tool. So in terms of reliability you can rest assure.

Children can certainly build these robots and handle the step-by-step construction and the simplistic software.

Having said that, KHR-1 and Robonova are not intended to be used by children under 14 unsupervised. You can get hurt from the aluminum brackets attached to these powerful servos. Just like with any science lab or workshop, supervision is critical.

Hi,
We are trying to introduce robotics through khr-1 at the school I'm teaching at. Do you guys feel that khr-1 is a good product to use in terms of reliability and usability? We don't want to use something that will break easily or that's impossible for us to figure out. Have you guys experienced any significant bugs or problems with the product?

Do you think KHR-1 is suitable for grade levels 6-8 (11-14 yr olds)?

Any information or suggestion will be much appreciated!
