Yes, I managed to translate all of the text in the program from Japanese to English. However, HTH4 is commercial software licensed by Kondo so I have to be careful how to distribute. Give me a few days to figure out how to distribute the translations as a patch. I'll post the English patches in the forum.
Statistics: Posted by chrisvo — Tue Jan 05, 2010 8:43 am

Unfortunately, the changes needed to fully translate the program were in the original assemblies (EXE and DLL files).

Maybe I can figure out how distribute just a patch... Hi

With regards to distribution via email, I' am afraid I can't do that without Kondo's permission.

HOWEVER, what I believe can be done (and is legal) is just distributre the Resource Files (no EXE or DLL files).

I believe only a couple of files were modified so could please do the following:

1) Distribute ONLY the modified files.
This can be considered "derived work" because the files you modified have "your" work in them. You have the rights to all work you do so I think it should be ok.
If you don't distribute any original files (which are Kondo work) I think there should be no problem (including the EXE files for HTH4).

2) Write some instructions about how to apply the files to an existing HTH4 installation.

For your information we have made publicly available a subset of the instructions manual (sample) for KHR 3HV and HTH4.

Once again, only people who purchased the robot are entitled to have the full manuals. Kondo expressly forbids public distribution of these manuals.

- Heart to Heart 4 Manual
http://robosavvy.com/RoboSavvyPages/Sup ... I just finished translating HTH4 into English. It's 99% complete except for the 15 toolbox description texts because it appears that the program uses those descriptions in the motion files and HTH4 crashes upon loading the motion files because it can't find the tools that the motion files refer to. This would make it hard to load up the bundled motions, so I left the description texts alone.

Screenshot below.

However, on second thought I am not sure I have the right to distribute this yet due to the copyright / software license . If someone wants to contact Kondo for permission, or can otherwise convince me that it's not illegal and unethical for me to distribute this thing, I am willing to distribute this patched English HTH4...

(Click for larger version)

Statistics: Posted by chrisvo — Sat Jan 02, 2010 1:27 pm

By the way I'm working on a C library (for Linux and OS X) to talk to the RCB-4. Do you know if Kondo is going to release a command reference soon? Even a little bit of info about the RCB-4 commands would be fine, even if it is in Japanese - It's (a little bit) easier to translate Japanese than stare at byte codes all day long trying to reverse engineer the protocol...
Statistics: Posted by chrisvo — Wed Dec 23, 2009 11:26 pm

Here's some various data I gathered about the serial servo byte codes from HTH4 regarding ICS 3.0 commands (I have never tried these so I'm not sure about the accuracy of them or the process you need to use to communicate with the servos):

Commands appear to be 4 bytes long.

Main commands:
Get parameter: 0xa0
Set parameter: 0xc0
ID (base): 0xe0
Position (base): 0x80

Sub commands (for get/set parameter):
Get/Set EEPROM: 0x0
Get/Set Stretch: 0x1
Get/Set Speed: 0x2
Get/Set Temperature: 0x3

Example get / set position:
Get: {0x80 & id, 0, 0, 0}
Set: {0x80 & id, (pos >> 0x7) & 0x1f, pos & 0x1f, 0, 0}
Example using subcommands:
Get: {0xa0 & id, subcommand, 0, 0}
Set: {0xc0 & id, subcommand, data, 0}
Example getting / setting ID:
Get: {0xe0 & id, 0, 0, 0}
Set: {0xe0 & id, 1, 1, 1}
Statistics: Posted by chrisvo — Wed Dec 23, 2009 11:20 pm

Hi Chris

In addition to that we would also like to see the Protocol Structure for ICS 3.0 in English too, so we can use it on the Roboard...

Another bit of information missing are instructions on changing the IDs on servos. Because servos are now in a daisy chain, each servo has an ID.
If you want to customize your robot with more DoFs (lets say > 22) you need to get more stand alone servos (that come with a default ID) and reprogram their IDs to unique IDs on your chain.
The procedure to this is also unknown at this time.

(this does NOT affect however the 5 Servo Expansion set for KHR 3HV. This expansion set already has all servos pre programmed with the correct IDs so it works perfectly fine).

For now I think we can be very happy to have the English docs finally available

Regards
Pedro.
Statistics: Posted by PedroR — Wed Dec 23, 2009 11:08 am
