If you want to hire some one for a commercial style project then have a look at the shapeways.com forums - they have people wanting and offering 3D modeling services. I expect they want your cash though. Someone or a little group o people might be interested in designing and asking for building little series of new parts. <br /><br />Could it be economically viable?
