Hi,

The difference between ABS and PLA besides the melting temperature is it's origin, PLA is a derived from renewable resources, such as corn starch, tapioca products or sugarcanes, ABS is made from petroleum.

Usually PLA is a little bit transparent and ABS is opaque.

The water soluble PVA will be a excelent product when the dual extrusion is standard in all machines (it's currently still experimental) so you can print your support material with PVA and then just put the piece in water and get the finished product.

BR
Nuno Gato
--RoboSavvy
Statistics: Posted by nunogato — Mon Dec 12, 2011 2:16 pm

Hello all,

I ordered a Makerbot kit from Robosavvy and have been wondering what the difference - what uses there are between the 3 available plastics.

What is the difference between ABS and PLA ?
I 'v read that PLA melts in a bit lower temp then ABS , is that the only difference ?
For what kind of applications water soluble PVA plastic is employed ?

Have looked a bit through the FAQ's but cannot seem to find any response.

BTW Such a printer is really a great invention, only imagination is the limit to what can be made with such a tool.
Statistics: Posted by balbaro — Mon Dec 12, 2011 1:04 pm
