Absolutely no strings attached!

Matt's right - the wire being held up in the background is an antenna. Several of the competitors had problems with the ring platform blocking transmission for some reason, and had to hold their transmitters up above table top level.

There were quite a few robots this time around that could jump. Dynamizer demonstrated jumping on just one foot - kind of a hop or skip. The absolute best was OMNIZERO.2, Maeda-san's robot. His designs are always amazing.

One other thing... When it punches, notice how whip-like it is? That's really cool! He draws back, and whhhhippa'! The arm reacts with the movements of the torso until the moment he strikes with furry using it's fist! Nice.

Man, that's pretty impressive! I think the fella holding the "wire" is for an antenna. He seems to be holding it up rather than getting it ready to pull. Having a human pull on a string and timing it so flawlessly would be an incredible feat by itself (especially at a competition where it really counts). The bounce appears to be the reaction from the robot's toes while at a downward angle, bouncing from the impact. It looks a bit choppy in how fast the bounce reacts, but I would guess it would be because the servos are stiffened up by being pushed a little further right at the moment of impact. I don't know for sure though. I just know that my Robonova leaves the ground and bounces some on impact. If you were to harness those bounces with small servo pushes, then I believe it is possible.
