Hi Limor,

Being very nosey but was wondering how your Hexapod project was progressing? Am very keen to see this little one in action and even (if you need it) prepared to help beta test/be an early adopter?

Pev
Statistics: Posted by Pev — Fri Apr 25, 2008 7:43 am

"a simple pivot pin/bolt in a simple bracket on the other sided of the servo" - double-sided sticky holding a small square flat plastic block with a pivot in the middle - very ingenious and functional. If such an item can be found by chance, that would definitely solve the back horn problem.

Statistics: Posted by limor — Tue Apr 01, 2008 11:30 pm

I love hexapods - guess from them being my first walking bot - still have my old Lynxmotion one (yellow foam stuff and 12 analog servos).

Would I buy one - definately he looks way cool

Oh on the free horn issue, how about having a simple pivot pin/bolt in a simple bracket on the other sided of the servo like this:

http://www.active-robots.com/products/motorsandwheels/servo-motors/psh04-750.jpg

Just an idea (which I am sure you have already thought of)

Pev
Statistics: Posted by Pev — Tue Apr 01, 2008 10:07 am

An affordable hexapod robot offering is something I've been wanting to have on RoboSavvy/store/ for a long time.
Finally, thanks to Conrad from Inexglobal.com, I'll soon have the opportunity to start programming this pretty thing.

Currently the body parts are in Perspex but we are looking at using black anodized aluminum instead which will be lighter and more durable but may be too expensive.

The servos are cheapo RC analog microservos but that blue and black combo sure looks pretty. There will also be an option for more powerful digital servos hopefully with a free-horn (like the kondo servos) or BYOS (Bring Your Own Servos).

It will eventually be available with the pretty servos, here for a target price of around 140GBP / 280USD / 175EUR (excluding VAT which is a 17.5% tax applicable only if your shipping address is within European Community).

It will host one of two new controller boards in the making (to be announced); one based on Atmega128, the other on Rensas and the embedded and PC software will be opensource.

one big challenge is the lack of "free horn" on the bottom of the servo. basically the legs are attached to the top part of the spider's back and the bottom part is not really serving any function at the moment.

This is very much preliminary and any feedbacks are welcome.
most importantly : would you buy one at that price ?

Statistics: Posted by limor — Mon Mar 31, 2008 4:28 pm
