when they ask you what you are going to do with RN-1 do they have a smile on thier face? I know I would and everyone thats seen RN-! run does too. besides I know I've increased my knowledge base somewhere along the road to getting this robot to do what it does. Bill or M$ will make $ here or anywhere anyway.

The "entertainment" Robots are industry in Japan and have very big market.
About Microsoft Robotics Studio (1.0) - its free and can not be sold yet because it doesn’t do anything except filling 80 MB of the hard disc. As soon as MS make it do something they will start selling it.
For the moment MS just probing the market spending more money for printing big headlines in the papers from the money they invested making this bunch of not finished ideas labeled Robotics Studio.

Just heard somewhere that the software was just commercially released. However, your comments, Limor, are accurate. Once the humanoids and others stop being referred to as "entertainment" we have a real market. The most fun is when someone asks "what" I am going to DO with the MANOI. As if there is some practical answer that makes sense...

M$ have invested 20 or so human resources into their robotic studio but no real marketing money as the product can not be sold yet (also because other then being cool, it doesn't cure any urging pain).

The content of the article is not really important. Bill Gates being their #1 marketing guy published this article in his name to promote M$ as a visionary company that's trying to get into a potentially exponential growth sector ahead of everyone else.

RoboSavvy shares this sentiment with Bill.

You can't miss it on the newsstand.

On the cover is a shiny humanoid and an article inside by Bill Gates. You know him. He is promising to dominate the ROBOTICS world the way he does the desktop. Do you want that?

If not, we all need to come up with some interoperability standards. Think about it after you read that issue. It is a good article. Scary, but good.
