That's right, the gears and case are the only difference (besides the price). I don't have an exact ETA on the 5980 servos yet, but once they arrive, I'll let everyone know.

Wow, I want to thank Tohm, Quasi, and engineer this is some good info, now since I have to wait FOREVER.......I am stuck between the choice of the 5990TG's or HSR-5980SG's so I have done the comparison only diff is that the 5990's offer Titanium and the 5980's are Steel.......Because the heat sink is removed and replaced with SG on the 5980's is the only diff to the 5990TG's correct? going with this notion would the 5980SG's work great for a hip rotation, I allready have about 6 SES brackets.

I just got off the phone from hitec in USA and they say that the 5990 servos were just dispatched to distributors so check your hobby supplier
for availability

At the moment those servos are not avaliable, but they should be within the next few months.

I do have good news though; the HSR-5990TG servos are avaliable now. We just recieved the first shippment recently and are in the process of shipping them to our distributors. Unlike the HSR-5995 servos, these are fully HMI compatible.

The problem for us Robonova owners is that they only come in a standard RC package (case). This means to use them you'll have to design and make new brackets or use the Lynxmotion's SES brackets.

well, Ibot the programming cable is at tower the 5498's I haven't found yet. you guy's are going to need lipos or liions to give that much current and I would worry about lifting circuit trace at those amperage levels
my5995's can confuse the speed control w/2x 7.2nimh packs feeding them. I have four wheel steering in my rockcrawler. these servos are tough.these 5498's sound sweet though, but like you said when will they arrive?

On the "shortly available", this is the quoted delivery of the serial program cable for the 8498. I don't really care how long it is, but 8 months is totaly disrespectfull of their customers.

We are hoping the new Hi torque HSR will have the HMI code, so we can get a 5995 with position feedback + ... The new servo promises proper heatsink, so the torque might be maintained over time without burnout.

The HFP10 will likely not work with the new servos due to a different interface. That is why we need the cable and the software.

I found 5995TG's at tower and yes they're pricey, but they have them.they have a ton more torque than the 8498's, are you building RN!KONG?

You're right,niether tower or servo city have those and if the wait is anything like the wait for sensors or programmers it could be awhile.where did you hear about the 5498's? the RTW in RN-1 is ready to run, while it might be fun to only have to tske RN out of the box, you won't learn anything about patience unless you've put it together according to the instruction manual then come here and found out that the manual has several glitches, and get those straightened out then try gyros, accel, and some more of the stuff We have been trying.

Any servo extension cable will work, the factory just sent me a notice to send in my HFP-10 for new programing,and I've only had it for a month. We are supposed to hack what we can't buy, learn what we don't know, and at least have some fun. This robot is so far ahead of my lego, VEX,or other robots it's unreal. It sure would be nice If Hitec RCD would gather all the knowledge on this and the other forums and get the board up at their site though.good luck
