Is there a link for the PC Gamer info? Good choice on getting the fast notebook with XP. Vista is too new and has all those bugs which users are just beginning to document, plus it doesn't work yet with the Robonova software. Maybe someone will come out with a fix.

humanoido
Statistics: Posted by Humanoido — Wed Apr 11, 2007 6:54 am

Just a thought here... when I got a new IBM PC, mainly to have RN capabilities, what I got was a lot more. I had worked with off-brands in the past, but this one is the real thing and works far better than the off-brand computers. One thing that may have helped is getting the duo core processor and extra memory. It keeps everything perky and fast enough, especially when programming and keeping several resources active at the same time.
So I'd recommend the newest IBM pc you can find with the latest install of XP.

humanoido
Statistics: Posted by Humanoido — Tue Apr 10, 2007 8:49 am

I fell so sorry for you because you still have WINDOWS ME. That is the worst piece of OS that has ever been written. I am surprised that you can program your Robonova with it. Is there anyway that you can upgrade? If you are taking college classes you can get Windows XP for free!
Statistics: Posted by Gort — Mon Apr 09, 2007 10:21 pm

You just need the Keyspan number. You can check their website for more information at

http://www.keyspan.com

The one compatible with P/N: USA-19Qi should work. Thats the part number of the unit I have in operation, - it works great, not only on Robonova - 1 but also for other microcontrollers.

One end plugs into a provided usb cable. the other end plugs into the Robonova - 1 cable, serial end, which then feeds into RN. There is a software driver to install. I'm running IBM PC WIN XP. Drivers can also be downloaded at the Keyspan web site.

humanoido
Statistics: Posted by Humanoido — Mon Apr 09, 2007 5:34 pm

One comment from experience.

The Belkin adapter I purchased worked fine for RoboBasic downloads but I was unable to establish a connection in time for a user program download with RoboFlash. After wasting a couple of days diagnosing the problem I went out and got a KeySpan dongle and that works great!

Bottom line is that the Belkin is OK for Basic work but get the KeySpan if you ever plan to program the RN with C or assembler
Statistics: Posted by Fritzoid — Mon Apr 09, 2007 2:18 pm

I'm using a KeySpan adapter. It came from a Macintosh computer and now works on an IBM pc. All I did was update the drivers. So if you have an old one laying around, you may be able to use it.

humanoido
Statistics: Posted by Humanoido — Mon Apr 09, 2007 2:22 am
