I know the basics but I feel that modding the gear chain would require sm1 who know gears insde out. Cheers for the link!

Marcus.
Statistics: Posted by DirtyRoboto — Tue Jul 10, 2007 6:04 pm

Find the basics of gears explained here:
http://www.blueink.com/CLASS/physcom1/gear.htm

I believe HSR-8498HB gear ratio is 300:1

I haven't needed to strip down a 8498 yet, so I can't help any more, but I think your idea is great.

All the best
Statistics: Posted by NovaOne — Mon Jul 09, 2007 9:43 pm

I was thinking of how to get more out of my servos. I wish to exchange torque for speed in certain servos.
Any servo that is not load bearing can benifit from greater speed, so my goal is to examine and redesign the gearing in the HSR-8498HB to provide this.

It might be a simple matter of using off the shelf cogs or having to make our own. I figure if we can get 2 to 4 times speed then we are on the right track.
Lets face it, your hand muscules are not the same rating as your thighs as they serve a different purpose.

I am not very good with gear ratios and what not, but I would like to modify the current servos gearing with a look to using torque and speed in the right places.

Marcus.
Statistics: Posted by DirtyRoboto — Tue Jun 26, 2007 9:08 pm
