Does nova work well on carpet?

Can someone try adding more weight to the feet to see if this helps?

Yes I think it will be hard to find a medium, as a pro for one thing is a con for another, thanks for the info i'll give that try when i have one, i also thought of giving it "elf shoes", meaning adding length to the front of the foot that maybe flicks up, i think he would walk better, but some tricks wouldnt work =-/

I saw a video the yesterday, I cant recall where but someone here probably seen it, testing robonova with gyro and accelometer sensors (something along those lines) one just didnt work but the other, they lent it back and it still balanced, seem side ways and everything, if these are released this could really help!

Adding the bumpers causes more force at each corner of the foot, and makes the footing more secure on carpet.

The good news: He walks much better on carpet!

I envy your carpetless house , the problem seems that he digs his foot into the carpet then trips himself over, maybe if it was programmed to left its knee, then stretch out its leg and play it downward to the ground, instead of forward.

Not sure, but anyways thanks for the videos and replies everyone, i'll look at a possible edit but maybe by the time i can afford it (im thinking 2045) there will be a firm solution?, who knows.

Yeah, that's another thing... My carpet is actually a dense rug. There's no padding underneith. Sorry, but unlike Chemical, who has nothing but carpet, I have nothing but hard floors ...and one rug.

This is where the ability to "rotate" the leg at the hip will come in handy. The Robotis bioloid has this capability. I am sure it is possible to mod the Robonova with that functionality by adding two servos (the board can support 8 more?).

Robonova will become slightly taller as a result and the existing maps can still be used as long as the new servos are brought into the initial state before activating the "action sequences".

Gait can also be enhanced by the addition of the two servos in the hip.

Parts:

2 x servo
2 x brackets
screws

There is no room in the torso so you need to extend the hip region of the torso to accomodate the servos. Shouldnt be too hard...

Just made this video of RN-1 on my living room floor, which has carpet. He's fully charged. He's worse on carpet than my RSV2, but I would agree with some modification of his programs he could succusefully walk without falling.. down..

Yes it's true you can program him to operate on carpet, but be mindful of the friction.

Haha, thanks alot for the video man, i really do appreciate it, he seemed ok getting up after the forward roll so maybe programming him to get up by lifting off his back in a similar way would work?, I dont think that would be a major problem and if on a full charge that doesnt happen then thats ok.

Anyways thanks alot, im just glad he doesnt look like he's walking the tight rope on carpet, my carpet may be thicker or thinner then that, i cant tell but mines also fairly sturdy, its not a big fluffy one so i would think it should be ok, now i just need it to go on discount

Here's a demo on carpet... (Note: the bateries were low... he can normally do a cartwheel w no problem on carpet, but standing up is another story). The carpet is a short thick weave and doesn't give much.

Hmmm, it really sucks that my floor is all carpet, do you think programming a "power walk" would ease any strain on the servos?, and with the gyro to be released soon, what do you think?, would it be ok on my all carpet house?

Im not extremely bothered about every movment being perfect, but i want it to be able to walk, kick, punch and a few fancy things, do you think the servo's would still last and perform on carpet?

Another thing i noticed was nova/khr use there hands to get up, this wouldnt a problem with khr as its hands have a sort of spade on the end which would dig into the carpet, but novas hands look as though they could slide across carpet.

If anyone could post a video of him walking, turning and doing a few things on carpet i would be VERY greatful

also i noticed KHR's bigfoot addon, do you think a mod like this (basically putting thin lightweight metal on its feet) would help?, it would be a challenge to re program some of the movements but if it would save stressed servo's then its worth it, maybe with a slight curved edge?

Yeah, he CAN operate on carpet... sort of. walking and cartwheels are about it for the overall template program. Other than that, the carpet just produces too much friction between the sole and floor. ...not so good for the servos.
