such a shame people use some substandard image web hosting to link their pictures and 2 years later the pics are gone or have some nasty adverts on them (this includes photobucket)

RoboSavvy provides FREE space for hosting your pictures so that the forum threads remain eternally intact and as pretty as they were the first time you posted here. otherwise use google's picassa or flickr..

Hi bbrainmonkey! For the coil I did 8 or 9 wraps, the best is to make some kind of coils and test it, I did a lot before this one. Now I´m using two 400V 330microfarades capacitors in pararell.

How you will make the reloading system? Post some photos!

I am building my own coilgun out of free pre-developed disposable cameras from instructions on instructables.com. Just a quick question, how many capacitors did you use, and how many wraps for the coil? Also, is the magnetic pulse created by the coil damaging to the robot?

The interface is very simple, the RN-1 grip the gun, reload it and aim using this programing:

I use one servo that activates/disactivate two switches for laser and shoot, but you can use two nails that make contact for the shoot switch, because is hard to find a small one that can handle this shortcircuit (I broke more than 5...)

I will make anothe bag for the circuit, bateries and servo because this one is a little heavy for the RN-1.

Isn´t posible to shoot paintballs because it can throw only magnetic metals, no plastics. I´m thinking about to make another one using gas, this kind could shoot any kind of balls, and as you say would be great to see combats between robots using guns!

Good thing about a paintball hit is you would know when you were hit. Bad thing would be the cleanup.

It would be a unique challenge to program your bot to fight with a staff, or ranged weapons. To make things even more fun, organizing squad combat would be ideal. 6 bots to a side, 5 armed with paintball guns, 1 bot acting as a medic. Much more challenging than Halo.

The electrical schematics are really simple, you only need a flash circuit from a single use camera (really cheap), condensers (I use two, 400V and 600 microfarades total), one switch to activate the shoot and one more for the laser if you wanna use it. The hardest part to make is the reload system, I try 3 before the last working system, you can make it using a micro servo to autoreload or use the RN-1 to do it. If you don´t have grippers can use any type of sujection to attatch the gun to the RN´s arm. The most important part is the coil, for mine coil I used 0.5mm copper wire around a pen. I choose 5mm steel balls bearings for the ammo.
