There is a bootloader in the servo, so Hitec may be able to upgrade the servo for you. My 5990TG sticker says 1.10 inside.

This may help to set the ID:
http://robosavvy.com/Builders/i-Bot/HSR8498_serial.pdf

There are some docs on the Hitec website too, but there are some errors in them.
Statistics: Posted by i-Bot — Mon Feb 25, 2008 1:25 pm

I just opened my new HSR-8498HB servo casing and noticed that a sticker inside states Ver 1.08.
Seems that originally this was a 1.08 as well, but the firmware was updated.
I guess HITEC has a possibility to do firmware upgrades without opening the servo casing.
Anyone with good contacts to HITEC? I opened a vendor ticket using their website, but I doubt they will help.
I'm still looking for someone who knows the protocol described for the earlier version to (permanently) change the ID...
Statistics: Posted by sascha — Mon Feb 25, 2008 12:53 pm

That's what I was looking for! So far, all instructions I found were for ver. 1.10. Can't find those docs for 1.08. Can you give me a link?
Statistics: Posted by sascha — Sun Feb 24, 2008 12:36 am

While the Hitec Servo programmer software will not set the ID, the ID can still be changed using the protocol described for the earlier version servos.
Statistics: Posted by i-Bot — Sat Feb 23, 2008 11:47 pm

Hi folks, I have the same issue. Reading the servos using the HMI programer is working fine, saving back to the servos tells me ver-108 not reset ... bla bla.
Now I have 16 HITEC Servos were I can't change the ID #, cause they run an old firmware version.
Does anybody know how to update the firmware? I recently bought a one new HSR-8498HB, which works fine. Is there a way to copy and/or re-flash the 16 older servos?
Sorry, I can't afford to buy 16 new servos Thanks for any ideas...
Statistics: Posted by sascha — Sat Feb 23, 2008 4:19 pm

Sadly, the HMI servo programmer will not write to the Robonova servos. The firmware on these servos (version 1.08) does not support the update command. The programmer is designed to work with other HITEK digital servos that run more up-to-date firmware.
Statistics: Posted by Fritzoid — Tue Feb 12, 2008 5:28 pm

HI Guy's I'm back ready to get ready for the next Robogames. I got the HMI Servo Programmer and while setting it up to smooth out some of RN-!'s moves couldn't get it to reset the values preset in the servo. The reset button received a message of ver 1.08 not reset, the servo save button got the same message. Anyone else have this going on? Or does someone out there know what I'm doing wrong?right??
Had a blast going for the gold last year. I'm in the games again this year hope to see some more of you guy's, thnx
OH yeah, the ver #on the programmer is v1.02
Statistics: Posted by engineer — Tue Feb 12, 2008 4:18 am
