Well the two holes (front left of chest) and the two holes (top right on shoulder) as seen best in the HiRes pictures are actually holes that i use to modify my gyros without having them stick out (bulky), so it looks clean, they are protected, and all i need to do it whip out a flathead screwdriver and adjust a little (be it the center or gain).
Statistics: Posted by hivemind — Sun Jul 30, 2006 6:26 pm

I did not create the flip routine using these two new servos, i believe the only difference that people may have trouble with regarding the flip is having Matt's grippers, so you should definitely buy those grippers!

As for designing parts, i just have to get around to making exactly what i want before i go about having them built, who knows, maybe i can talk to Matt and we can work out the bracket design together and sell them as kits...
Statistics: Posted by hivemind — Sun Jul 30, 2006 5:15 pm

the first one is him relaxing... i was inspired by my own 3d model (no kidding, thats why i decided to share some pictures... ) but yes, posed

the hip is just a little rough so far, i actually plan on having the horizontal servo move up so it is almost touching the hip, and then i may rotate the servo inside the body there 90 degrees (so it wont stick out) and thus i may change the design a little, but hey, this was my first physical test with all parts you can buy right from Hitec, and he is very stable, so im pleased as of yet.

But thanks for the comments, keep em coming! I plan on improving this design as much as possible before creating brackets.

and oh, as for the camera it's a Nikon P4, its great, take pictures and send to the PC via wireless.. lets you see all the scratches Thor has acquired thus far.
Statistics: Posted by hivemind — Sun Jul 30, 2006 3:04 pm

Cool. Let me guess, you posed the first one? Oh, and what camera do you use? Those are some really nice photos. Big as hell, easy to see how you made the mods . And by "leg design" i was talking about the hip looking all
Statistics: Posted by robodude666 — Sun Jul 30, 2006 2:56 pm

actually the leg design isnt too awkward, i tried to keep the original design and just tweak it near the hip, i have him moving around, and turning is awesome. right now everything is kind of tight, and the brackets are all bigger than i want, but the idea is there... the battery was probably the biggest challenge, i had to wiggle it in there and then screw the legs on.

But once i create my own brackets the battery will slidein fine, just where it used to, and everything will be more compact.

I havent taken video yet -but it will be awesome, the ease of turning is amazing, plus the regular shoot_left/right move (with A and B buttons on IR) from a regular RN-1 doesnt affect it as much (more stable).

As for the poses, i posed a couple and the others he can move in to, I'll start making a video soon
Statistics: Posted by hivemind — Sun Jul 30, 2006 1:55 pm

That looks excellent, and using stock parts is good for those of us that like to tinker that can't make our own parts.

Are all the poses in the pictures staged, or can Thor move himself from standing to each pose? Do you have any video yet?

Keep up the good work!
Statistics: Posted by beermat — Sun Jul 30, 2006 1:08 pm

Very nice, very nice. The way you remounted the legs will make movement very awkward. The lego now bends left/right about an inch or so away from where it used to, plus the servo is not 90 degrees to the leg.

But still, good job.
Statistics: Posted by robodude666 — Sun Jul 30, 2006 6:27 am

I have created a 21 DOF robot, that i daresay is more stable than the original RN-1 despite being taller. I have Matt's grippers, a head rotational servo and now two more rotational servos on the legs. I have yet to produce my own parts thusfar, but i have my design worked out below, and now i believe only small improvements will be made until it is finished.

If youd like to ask questions feel free, but below i have a variety of poses that Thor is in, and Hires links below them-enjoy.

Hires

Hires Standing

Hires Crouch

Hires

Hires Fight Stance

I hope you enjoy, please comment and make suggestions-for your knowledge i plan to make new brackets to shrink the space where the new servo is
Statistics: Posted by hivemind — Sun Jul 30, 2006 1:53 am
