My professional CAD program can export to 10s of different file formats, and the CNC machinist that i am working with will accept most, if not all of them. In fact, the regular job of a CNC machinist is not to run the CNC machine, but to convert files and put in the CNC machine paths. A CNC machine is generally run at night and can operate completely indepentantly, change bits, you name it. In fact a CAD program is not even the final step to a CNC machines work, it needs the tool path which is generally designed by the CNC operator, this is where the money is made.

So i am sorry, you will have to specify as to what file format you would like if you want to have this professional CAD drawing of my "Robo capt-n-claw".
Statistics: Posted by hivemind — Sat Aug 05, 2006 10:50 pm

Hi,
With a professional CAD program i was able to design a manufacturing part that can be sold at just half the price of previously released "Robo-Grippers" and with many more features. My design gives use to both inner and outer claw as it can easily be switched for any occasion, given the input that i am given.

Below i have posted several designs which are all complete. Because i didnt want to prove i could actually make them by using a state of the art laser cutting CNC machine i decided to use cheap cardboard off of my Cap-n-crunch box, but thats ok, this proves that i can actually make the part out of aircraft aluminium at half the price.

here you can see that the claw easily fits on to any arm model and can be applied to various brackets given just 8 (or four if you want to risk it) screws. (on the back, next to the bent U-bracket)

You can see the inside of the claw here, its demensions are 70mm x 60mm for the claw mouth, and it can shovel almost 147 cm^3, total, note that what your shovelling may throw off your weight, but if you have my roboclaws on either side it will balance out nicely.

Dimensions: 60mmx60mmx70mm (and 20mm claw extension as seen in the last pictures-to help with shovelling)
weight: 120 grams

I have done this with a professional CAD program and figure that with my first 100 pairs the price may drop to about $30, but i havent had it actually quoted, and this is just a cardboard cutout to show its various uses.

Also, the CAD design is available to anyone who would like to have this manufactured themselves or just wants to make it out of cardboard.
Statistics: Posted by hivemind — Sat Aug 05, 2006 3:32 pm
