Hi,

Just a thought - maybe using two markers it could draw in a similar fashion as the robot does in the movie "iRobot" which uses a cross hatching pattern?

I'm no programmer, but my thinking would be a routine where a picture is "scanned" then converted to a crossed hatch pattern then into movements.

In a sense the way pictures use to be converted to alpha-numeric character to be printed on old mainframe printers where different characters represented different tones of dark and light.

Regards
Michael
Statistics: Posted by mkegruber — Wed Jan 31, 2007 3:35 pm

I disagree Bullit, Thor has learned his own name and is not afraid to write it! Although...The smiley does look pretty, um, amazing. right.

It'll still be shown in major museums, as you can see its very artistic. You will notice it looks childish, but i think that my RN has pretty good writing for only a few months old. Can you all say the same about your children? And if so, I challange them to a drawing contest! disclaimer: must use large sharpy markers to compete... and a $5 entry fee will be required

Just Kidding.

But I am getting him closer to drawing more detailed. I will try to find a finer tipped marker and perhaps a way of switching to another colored marker.

Pev, I would be delighted if you could find Thor a hoodie. He does get awfully cold walking around those back allies. Hmm, i wonder if they make miniature spray paint cans.

And BillB, I like the idea of the magnets, but im not so sure cardboard will do the trick though. Maybe for a prototype?

Thanks
Statistics: Posted by hivemind — Tue Aug 29, 2006 4:34 pm

Its RoboArt!
Hive, you need to rename your robot to Picasso. His works of art could be shown at all the major museums. You just need to add a little random emotion to each drawing so they are all a little different.
Statistics: Posted by Bullit — Tue Aug 29, 2006 3:47 pm

Nice one hivemind - first time I have seen robograffiti.

His arms look almost long enough for him to be able to change colours - perhaps from a backpack made of a few sweet(candy) tubes taped to his back. That way he could pull coloured pens from his back pack much like Robin Hood pulls arrows. I guess the problem will be to make sure that robo holds the pen at the right place... but some circular cardboard guides or even magnet may do the trick.

Anyway just a few of my thoughts.
Statistics: Posted by BillB — Mon Aug 28, 2006 11:00 pm

Hello all.

I finally decided to try to put the new length and freedom of my robots arms to something other than combat. I was able to get him to draw a simple smiley with a blue sharpy marker:

Also you can see a video of him doing this here, and albiet a bit rough, it gets the job done. I also encourage you to watch his eyes closely all the way through the video. It may be a little hard to notice, but he has emotion

Has anyone else tried doing this? I know I saw a robotic arm sketch an amazing drawing, but how about other bipeds? Comments always encouraged.

Thanks all
Statistics: Posted by hivemind — Mon Aug 28, 2006 3:59 am
