What i-bot meant is that the bluetooth would send move commands but is to slow and subject to errors to program with ,the serial cable connection is needed to program RN. Then depending on which BT you have installed, use sither a palm pilot or laptop to control the robot. I use BIOBLUE since it seems to have the least interference problems at the events and no frequency conflicts since the B/T and control communicate at 2.4Ghtz and lock on to each other. Also the laptop can alter the programming for the site, and keep RN-! in trim.have fun, hope to see you at the games
Statistics: Posted by engineer — Tue Mar 02, 2010 8:13 pm

Thank you ! But I missed at some parts like 'it is really designed for remote control within a Robobasic program". Please can you be more clear ?

(I am sorry for troubling you with seemingly simple things. But I am not very familiar with serial port or bluetooth technology.)

What I understood is that we can remove the serial port cable completely (forever) and control the robot using Bluetooth alone. Is that right ?

Thank you once again for your time.

Bhanu Kiran C
Statistics: Posted by cbhanukiran — Sat Feb 27, 2010 8:04 am

The bluetooth module connects to the ERX/ETX serial port and not the serial port for the PC connection. So it is really designed for remote control within a Robobasic program.
I have had the RN to PC connection working over bluetooth, but it is rather slow because most of the protocol is alternate bytes in each direction. Further complication is that the connection changes serial speed during download. I used a patched RoboNova firmware to get around this but still fairly slow.
You can bypass the robonova download using the direct protocol to the robot from Java or other PC program. You should find protcol details in this forum, else I will hunt it out for you
Statistics: Posted by i-Bot — Thu Feb 25, 2010 11:44 am

Hi everybody,

I just got a new ROBONOVA-1 for my project. Can I use Bluetooth module provided for ROBONOVA-1 and download all the codes from my Laptop to the robot ??? Or the Bluetooth module is meant for something else ??

And can I use a Java program using Bluetooth library to upload the Object files (bypassing the Robonova software ) ???

Thanks in advance for your time !!!
Statistics: Posted by cbhanukiran — Thu Feb 25, 2010 9:40 am
