REPLACEMENT GEARS FOR HSR-5498SG's FOUND!!!

Well, I emailed / called Hitec support here in the U.S. and found that the 55014 (Hitec Part Number) 1st gear set (contains 3 gears) is available in the states for as low as <$10.00 USD. I was told by Hitec that this is the same gear in the HSR-5498SG's. I ordered several sets and some grease for the servos tonight. I can buy the 2nd and 3rd gear sets (part number 55026) direct from Hitec for $19.95 USD, I will do that tomorrow. I will likely buy a few more HSR-5498SG's as spares for the future.

Hitec's US Support Line told me as of today that they have 79 sets for 2nd and 3rd gears in stock, and that the "full" replacement set using Hitec part number 55320 did not meet enough demand to warrant sales (I have the impression that they were never available anywhere).

As it turns out, several of the servos I received from Ebay have broken / chipped teeth on the 1st gears. With the rest of the gears being metal, this seems to be the most likely part to fail. I ordered enough to keep me going for a good while.

Hope this helps someone else.

Take Care,
Paul
Statistics: Posted by PaulL — Fri Aug 13, 2010 2:53 am

Hi,

I have looked, but have not found any gear sets to replace gears in these servos. In a bunch I got from Ebay, I have at least one gear with a broken tooth (the "karbonite" gear off the motor), and possibly 3.

I have two questions:

1- Are there any gear sets available for these servos? If so, where?

2- If I can find gear sets for an HSR-8498HB, how likely is it that I will strip these using them in an HSR-5498SG? Will they even work?

Thanks!!!
Paul
Statistics: Posted by PaulL — Sat Apr 17, 2010 12:48 am
