Screws Falling Out

If you read this forum a lot, you'll find out quickly that a lot of posters on here have a screw loose

I have a problem with the screws on my RN at the top of the legs and the ankles, similar to what you described. It's such a pain!

Yes I have experienced the same problem with the screws falling out and after a leg came off during a cartwheel - I now find a small dab of Loctite works wonders. I also agree a general inspection of all joint on a regular basis is needed.

locktite is a good solution, but maintenance is better, checking screws for tightness often is a good idea since most of us are in the middle of stuffing more functions in RN! and the crosshead screws that hold it together are light weight (shear off easily, ask me how I know)you need to take the time. I think I've had mine apart a lot W/grippers, gyros, accel, V.ref and just cleaning up the wire excess.

I use a tiny blob of Loctite 638 on the head end of the thread. This works for me.

The cheapest material to use for locking your screw is Woman Finger Nail Polisher. Just put a little on the head (side) of the screw... where the head touches the surface.

You can get a cheap woman nail polisher at the store for $1

Locktite doesn't work that well in aluminum but use some small longer 5mm screws and nuts with locktite to keep things together.
m2 stainless nuts are available from mcmaster.com or smallparts.com (as well as many other places) they also have longer screws. For the servo horns and places where you can't add nuts you can put in a 2.5mm diameter screw which is much stronger.

Does anyone have a problem with screws falling out of their RN? Ever since I started putting RN through his workouts, the tiny screws work their way out. I don't think he's getting too much of a workout. He gets two charges per day. But in the future, that could go up to 4 during the weekend. They were originally in tight, but I noticed the problem with acrobatics and the fast walk routines and started finding screws on the floor. Then the leg fell off. I unscrewed the leg servo under the hip and put in the four screws. Now I noticed the walk is unstable so I checked the ankle and those are coming out too. I had noticed more wobble and slop in the body. Since I plan to use my RN even more heavy in the future, it's going to need a fix of somekind. I used to repair small printers and dabbed the screws with finger nail polish to keep them from working their way out. Is a dab of clear finger nail polish the best solution here?
