Dave,

Connect up your CM-5, with your AX-S1 connected to it, to your PC serial interface (COM1 or whatever). Then run Robot Terminal. Assuming the COM port is correct, if you select Manage mode on the CM-5 (LEDs on back, press the mode button (red one) to cycle), then press start, you should get the CM-5 banner from the firmware and end up at a prompt.

[CID:001(0X01)]

If you are not on the right com port just disconnect (I think its under the setup menu in Robot Terminal but I may be wrong) then reconnect. That will let you select the COM port to use, leave the baud at 57600.

At the prompt you can type

reset 100

the value 100 is the ID of the AX-S1, reset is obviously the command.
You will be asked to confirm your action with a y/n type prompt
You'll get a couple of lines returned (they are actually packet details), and thats it done.

The Management Mode is documented in the Bioloid User Guide PDF on Starting page 108, the reset command is on about page 114/115, sorry for being vague doing this from memory. Do check the docs, you can download them in the Bioloid/Documentation section on the left.

Hope this helps, but do check the documetnation as I am doing this from memory.

Pev
Statistics: Posted by Pev — Wed Feb 14, 2007 11:21 am

Please note that you may find problems with communication if you use very long cables. Try to be moderate choosing your maximum length cable. The reason is the 1Mbps speed used in communications. I can't tell you which will be the maximum length, but don't be surprised if you find some failures with long cables.
Statistics: Posted by inaki — Mon Feb 12, 2007 2:23 pm

Thanks again!
Quick other question where can you get replaceable cables etc for the bioloid. From running the test program, where it lies down, my bioloid has damaged the cable insulation. Plus i intend to develop ideas with the kit which may involve needing longer cables.
Thanks,
Sorry guys for so many newbie and some silly questions!
Bet regards
Dave
Statistics: Posted by Dave — Mon Feb 12, 2007 1:50 pm

Yeah its not to hard. The default CID for the sensor module is 100 I think. So have a look at the robot terminal stuff in the comprehensive quick start guide. That will detail how to run Robot Terminal and do the reset. My suggestion is to disconnect everything except the AX-S1 from the CM5 before you do this. JUst to be on the safe side.

Pev
Statistics: Posted by Pev — Sun Feb 11, 2007 10:15 pm
