The electronics can handle that temp. no problem.

The default high limit temperature is 85 degrees C.

The max torque is preset to 1023, but that is a setting rather than a limit. When you put too much torque on the servo, it will heat up fairly quickly.

If you look at page 16 of the AX-12 manual, it spells out how the alarm function works, both in flashing the LED and shutting the servo down.

- Jon
Statistics: Posted by JonHylands — Mon Mar 17, 2008 7:24 pm

I don't have access to my Bioloid at the moment, but are the AX-12+s defaultly set to protect itself from overload and temp? I remember in the manual that it had some value to "85" for temperature limit. Does this correspond to 85 celcius? If it is, I need to set all of my servo to a lower limit since I don't want any of the electronics inside going anywhere near this temp since most ICs are rated there (unless it has automotive spec).

What are the AX-12+ set at for protection of over current/load, and over temp?
Statistics: Posted by tom_chang79 — Mon Mar 17, 2008 3:34 pm

Its pretty hard to burn out an AX-12, unless you disable the torque and termperature limit system...

- Jon
Statistics: Posted by JonHylands — Sat Mar 15, 2008 9:58 pm

Has anyone experimented with using an AX-12+ with a burned out motor as a rotational sensor?

I was recently doing some brainstoming about master/slave rigs and realized that you might be able to use an AX-12 as a sensor. One could remove the motor and gears and just use the horn, it's axle, the controllerboard, and the housing.

It would probably be a good use for an AX-12 with a burned out motor, assuming circuit board was undamaged.

BZ1
Statistics: Posted by Banzai_One — Sat Mar 15, 2008 6:59 pm
