Here is a basic Bioloid setup that will give you a good introduction to programing the servos without spending much:

- one or two of the servos (AX12)
- USB2Dynamixel - lets you control the servos from the PC (see the sticky post on top of this forum)
- SMPS2Dynamixel - small board that links external DC power source to the servos
http://robosavvy.com/store/index.php?ma ... rers_id=15

Alternatively you can get the Robobuilder beginner kit
http://robosavvy.com/store/index.php?ma ... rers_id=24
Statistics: Posted by limor — Wed Dec 10, 2008 11:51 am

Depends, what are you looking forward for!

Personally i like the Bioloid: it is multiple robots in one, with servo feedback to boot. Lots of possibilities to quickly generate useful movement. Most usefull is that you can extend it at will by acquiring more kits.

Set yourself a simple goal with the small kit, and when bored buy the big one. This way you are intimate with every aspect of it, making for some fun and productive experimentation.
Statistics: Posted by Barryke — Wed Dec 10, 2008 11:33 am

I am 13-years-old and was originally looking at more expensive robots like KHR-2HV, Bioloid Comprehensive and Robonova 1. I have decided I need to consider less expensive robots that are more for a beginner. I would like to learn about Robotics while having fun at the same time. My biggest concern about buying a cheaper one is that it may be too simple and I would get tired of it. Is that likely?

Does anyone have suggestions for less espensive robots that I can start with?

Thank you!
Statistics: Posted by dmj4 — Wed Dec 10, 2008 2:41 am
