Looks great Pev!
And I like your solution to get the legs further apart from each other. Wouldn’t it be nice to have some more universal building blocks? We currently only have the cm-5 to attach stuff to. A bit like Lego blocks, empty ax-12 housings, or variations on the cm-5/battery pack casing.

Another idea I had is rubbery feet for the legs. You have those half spherical rubber pads with double sided sticky tape you can find for example underneath a small loudspeaker. I tried them ones on the ‘feet’ of a walking pod, it gave some extra grip and it didn’t sound like it was trying to drill through my wooden floor anymore .
Statistics: Posted by VanHelsing — Tue Jun 27, 2006 10:01 am

The motion editor was used for the walking and turning. I basically set up a start walking motion, walking forwards motion, stopping motion, turn left, turn right and backwards. As I am a bit of a wimp I even use the GUI motion editor not the terminal version.

Things have moved on this pm though, and with Stevo3d's suggestion hex2 has been created and I am now working on the motion files for this one, with 3 DOF per leg.

Pev
Statistics: Posted by Pev — Sat Jun 03, 2006 6:12 pm

stevo3d wrote:
Have you considered adding another AX-12 to each leg?

Yes that is probably the next thing to do. He walks pretty well with the 2 DOF but a 3DOF leg would let him scuttle sideways.

Have got a video of his first walkabout but can't get the file upload to work at the moment.
