Zig110/Zig100 connection issues

I have just received my RC100Z setup and got the ZIG link all working. The only issue I have is that the connection keeps dropping over the shortest distances.

I get the initial connection with no issues. Then if I move the remote more than about 2 feet or so away the red light on the Zig110 flashes really fast and the connection drops. I have to move the remote to about a foot away from the Zig110 to get it to reconnect.

Anyone have any suggestions as to what I can do to improve the range?
