Thanks for your answer, I didn't want to mess up the USB port in my laptop by being an idiot

Also, regarding the first question I found this image on the Calliope robot assembly instructions that seems to answer it.
Statistics: Posted by migueluli — Tue Jan 11, 2011 12:50 pm

I can answer the second question. The Power line on the TTL connector of the USB2Dynamixel is isolated from the USB circuitry. No connection at all.
Statistics: Posted by i-Bot — Tue Jan 11, 2011 12:35 pm

I have two questions about how to properly connect the USB2Dynamixel and the SMPS2Dynamixel to a bunch of AX-12 servos.

1) I was thinking to connect the USB and the SMPS at the opposite ends of the servo chain, which is not very practical, and I just realised the SMPS has two connectors. Is the TX/RX line of both connectors wired together so I can connect the chain as USB <> SMPS <> AX-12 <> AX-12 <> ... instead of USB <> AX-12 <> ... <> AX-12 <> SMPS? Or should I do some re-wiring to allow connecting both USB2Dynamixel and SMPS2Dynamixel at the same end of the servo chain?

2) Is the power line in the Dynamixel TTL cable disconnected from the USB inside the USB2Dynamixel adapter? Asked another way, is my computer USB port safe from excessive voltage/current or should I add a fuse to make it safer?

Thanks in advance!
Statistics: Posted by migueluli — Tue Jan 11, 2011 12:12 pm
