Dave,

If you think of the Robonova or Manoi as a humanoid robot and the Bioloid as an experimenters kit that can be built as a humanoid or any number of other robots you'll have a good starting point

Pev
Statistics: Posted by Pev — Wed Jan 10, 2007 5:01 pm

Yes. Bioloid definitely has the most potential out of the available bots IMO. The software really is the only thing holding it back at this point. ( I personally am looking to do something about that. )

Out of the box it will walk without a gyro. You could also get another CM5 and another SX1 and make a little IR controller with it. You'll probably have to do a little bit of visual "programming" to merge the two programs, but it is probably not a big project.

If you're looking for a toy to play with, then I dunno about all these walking robots at this point. They are fun to put together, but IMO, not so fun to play with. I spend hours building to just play with them only for a few minutes. Yep.. Hey look.. A walking puppy.. Ok, let's build another one. Now if your attitude is that you're looking for a toy to learn with.. That's a whole different world.
Statistics: Posted by billyzelsnack — Wed Jan 10, 2007 4:59 pm

Hi Dave

I can offer you my point of view why Bioloid is my choice
1. The price – for this amount of $ normally you can purchase only the servos that are included in this kit.
2. The potential – may be the main reason to get Bioloid – this is not only the humanoid robot, it can be dog, spider, dinosaur, car and many other things, the only limit is your imagination 
Statistics: Posted by smile_nik — Wed Jan 10, 2007 3:38 pm

Eventually i would like to modify it , eg how it looks not neccessarily the internal electronics. I really want to get into robotics esepcially humanoid ones.
As for my expectations , well i think i have learned that it is down to me on how well it performs actions. I just am having difficulty deciding between all of the available bot kits!
The KHR 1 looks great, and has lots of extras available. If i bought one i would need to know where to get the body shells for it aas i have seen some really smart mecha style kits!!
The Bioloid has lots of great reviews but has not many if any extras.
Robonova is nice but im not sure.
Manoi looks awesome but the vids dont make me drop in awe.
So i am really stuck!
I understand there is no better robot.
So i want a robot that will be able to walk once assembled with some of my input without the need for extra gyros etc. Thanks
Dave
Statistics: Posted by Dave — Wed Jan 10, 2007 12:53 pm

Hi , is it possible for someone like me to be able to use the bioloid who has never really programmed robotics etc like it before?? I have built lots of things before like rc cars etc but i am just a bit worried in case i cant control or use the bioloid and regret buying one.
been looking around on the robosavvy site shop and forums, are there spare or replaceable batteries for the bioloid? I am curious because i am close to purchasing one. I really want the bioloid more so than robonova, the only thing holding me back are modifications and battery replacement. Can anyone help?
Statistics: Posted by Dave — Tue Jan 09, 2007 4:34 pm
