...I would like to venture into the world of voice activated controll. Any ideas?


I would use a VR Stamp from Sensory,
The VR stamp module is a reasonable price from Total robots ( now owned by Active robots)

However I think the development kit is an unreasonable price. Don't these companies where there biggest markets are?
Mikro Elektronika make the easy vr stamp kit a a good price but due to some software issue they currently have put sales on hold:

This has something about the first option. Never worked with it myself but I think that it is pretty good. Good luck with your project.

I am currently in progress on my own homemade robot.
IN addition to automation control and RC control I would like to venture into the world of voice activated controll. Any ideas?
