Hi Paulo,

My 10 yo son has just got into building robots and is having a lot of fun with it. We just started by getting an Arduino and we began making a few small circuits together using some LEDs and sensors and an LCD screen - I think this is a good approach as it lets you learn the basics of programming and circuit building and how to use logic to work out what to do with the information provided by sensors (and it's fairly inexpensive!).

He's a fairly bright 10yo but he still needs to get reasonably immediate results in order to keep his interest up. This is an example of something he built for himself using parts we purchased (it was a Year 5 science project for school):

http://simplycomputing.com.au/archives/9

He's working on his second robot now which is more his own design.
Statistics: Posted by ozfiddler — Sat Nov 27, 2010 11:48 am

Hello -
My 10 year old son is fascinated by robots and would love one for his birthday. He was interested in the Spykee Vox, but after reading a few reviews it looked like it might be a bit difficult for him. I've tried researching myself but this is clearlily a large and complex subject, and it I think it would take me months to understand enough to make a good decision, so please, if anyone there has any ideas or recommendations, I'd love to hear them!

Paulo
Statistics: Posted by Paulo — Fri Sep 17, 2010 10:26 pm
