Hi everyone,

I'm looking for a servo that is:
1. As small and as flat as possible (only if possible).
2. One that has attachments that can hit a light switch to turn it off and on (such as the one in https://ak8.picdn.net/shutterstock/videos/30233938/thumb/1.jpg?i10c=img.resize(height:160))

Can you give me any recommendation for one?
Thank you!
Statistics: Posted by nettek — Fri May 04, 2018 11:52 am — Replies 0 — Views 43749

Hi all,

This is a post introducing a quadruped robot I've been working on this year.

It began as a learning exercise in Autodesk Fusion 360, but now I have sourced the hardware and the legs have been assembled, along with a temporary chassis, as well as some test kinematics code.

Here is a recent video of the progress made so far:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Bc8oe3zt6aA

This robot uses AX-12A Dynamixel servos. The legs currently have 20 DOF and there are an additional 2 DOF for the body. Servos and brackets are from the Robotis range, with some replaced by their metal counterparts available from Trossen Robotics. They are painted to match the colour theme. The rest of the parts will be mostly 3D printed where appropriate. The main framework of printed parts forming the body will be sandwiched between 1.6 mm thick custom aluminium plates.

The novel aspects of this quadruped are its articulated legs, which have higher DOF than usually found on small quadrupeds, and its articulated "spine", which will help it in navigating uneven terrain.

The advantage of the quadruped is its capability to carry heavier loads and provide a stable platform for sensors, hence the idea to add a 3D scanner later on! The size of a RealSense/Kinect etc. seems to be perfectly fitting with the rest of the profile.

I will try and post developments here as I go along, but if you are interested in following the build progress more closely, and also reading in more detail about what has been done so far, please visit my website:
https://dxydas.com/category/robotics/quadrobot-project/
Statistics: Posted by Dimitris — Sun Dec 17, 2017 11:16 pm — Replies 1 — Views 22805

Hi all,

I cannot get roboBasic v2.8 communicates with my Robonova-II robots.

Here is the story:
Recently, I bought 2 robonova-ii robots (Metal Fighter robot) which are used ones with no programming cable.
So I built a custom cable using FT232RL USB to TTL Serial Adapter Module.
My cable connections are described in the attached picture.
When I open RoboBasic v2.8 and hit "Read Controller Information" button, I always got error -4 after the timeout.
Then I use a Serial Sniffer program to check communication lines between FT232 converter and the robot. I see RoboBasic sends 0xF0 but gets no response from the robot.
Then I follow connections on the board from the Host Communication Connector to AT Mega128 and see that there is a IC named U3 in between. So I solder a wire to RXD1 pin (pin 27) of ATMega128 to connect it to RX pin of FT232 converter in order to confirm what data ATMega128 receives and see it is always 0x00

I tried with both 2 robots and got the same result. So I suspect my cable has problem to interface with IC U3

Robot conditions when testing:
- Battery fully charged
- Can stand-up after switching on
- Controller board is MR-C3024FX v2.8

Why ATmega128 always receives 0x00 at RXD1 pin when FT232 Converter sends 0xF0 to IC U3?
Can I use FT232 Converter like the cable I made? Should I miss anything to make the cable works with IC U3?

Thanks
Statistics: Posted by HuyK — Thu Jul 27, 2017 11:08 am — Replies 0 — Views 28409
